A stretch of my imagination

As a longtime creative, I like to think that with the correct approach to research and creative thinking,
​no design or print task is unachievable. And during the past 25+ years, this has been largely the case.

However, creating a website "for myself" has tested my imagination, technical ability and patience. Whilst any young person who owns a tablet with a bright coloured protective bumper can negotiate the processes required as if by second nature, it has been a labour of love for me and quite a challenge. 

Previous to this, the most difficult design job that I have encountered was for my own wedding invitations
(and I've stupidly done that twice)! So maybe it should not have been a surprise to me that tackling a brief for myself, with a brief set by myself and requiring feedback and constructive criticism from myself is a thankless task.

With that knowledge safely filed somewhere to the rear of my brain, I decided that the post-Covid revamp of my business should really involve the building of my website. Somewhat foolishly I have had the domain name sat there doing nothing for many many years - I never seemed to have enough time to stop juggling life for long enough to gather my thoughts and organise myself to sort it out. Interestingly, had a brief landed on my desk requiring a tight deadline, I would have set to and got the job done, but when you are the client it is too easy to put yourself at the bottom of the priority list.

Now, having forced myself out of my comfort zone and created an albeit very simple template-based website I am feeling strangely pleased with myself and have given myself a tiny pat on the back. If nothing else it has made me look closely at work created and made me be selective about what I consider achievements and what will remain firmly in the archive folder.

Onwards, and hopefully upwards, my next task is to tackle the important aspects of SEO - I will keep you posted!
